MSXHARDWARERETRO

Wifi232 modem connects your MSX to the Internet

Available assembled and as a DIY kit

A wireless modem for retro computers that connects via a standard serial port and is controlled by AT commands, just like a traditional modem.

Paul Rickards is producing wireless modems for retro computers.

From the retro computer side they look like a standard serial modem complete with AT commands. However, this unit doesn't attach to a telephone cable. Instead, it has a wireless module that allows it to connect to a wifi access point and reach servers on the Internet as if we were dialing to a BBS over the phone.

It doesn't require any special software or hardware, just a serial port and any serial communications software. All the configuration is done with AT commands from the terminal.

It is available in two versions: a fully assembled board for US$49, or a solder-it-yourself kit for US$33. The availability is limited and it sells out quickly, so the best way to get one is to follow Paul on Twitter and hurry to his website whenever he announces that he has more units available (see link below).
