This morning (the first Sunday of October) I went to Icho Namiki Avenue in Akasaka for some carspotting. It’s a good place to see classic cars on early Sunday mornings.
I arrived a bit before 9am, and there were already a number of interesting cars, as well as a number of tourists taking photos. This is the first Sunday of the month, so this is also when a group of Lotus owners meet here.
When I was about to park, I noticed a police car driving slowly and saying something on the loudspeakers. I didn’t understand what they were saying, so I kept driving to turn around and park on the other side of the street with the other Lotus owners. When I came back about eight minutes later the street was completely empty.
Apparently, the police had cleared the area because a group of far-right supporters was nearby, celebrating the election of ultra-conservative politician Sanae Takaichi.
Around the corner there was still a small group of classic cars. Among them was a Bugatti Type 35, which must have been already 100 years old.
I stopped to take a couple photos before heading out toward the Daikoku Parking Area.
